Abstract
The therapeutic effect and safety of 2% minoxidil solution was tested in male pattern baldness and alopecia areata patients.
Fifty two patients with alopecia(29 patients-M.P.B., 23 patients-A.A.) were included in this study.
Patients were treated with 2% minoxidil lotion for 24wks.
The results were as follows:
1. The therapeutic effect of 2% minoxidil lotion in patients with male pattern baldness was 72.2%.
2. The therapeutic effect of 2% minoxidil lotion in patients with alopecia areata was 70.0%.
3. The degree of therapeutic effect was related to the duration of the therapy.
4. 2 of 52 patients complain of pruritus during topical minoxidil therapy, but no skin lesions were found.
From the above results, we conclude that topical minoxidil therapy is effective and safe for male pattern baldness and alopecia areata.
